Nick Bottom is an energetic and overly passionate actor. He is very enthusiastic about everything he does, especially when it comes to acting. He is very goofy and tends to joke around a lot. Bottom is the other “Everyman”, and arguably the most relatable character in the entire movie. Bottom’s main goal is to put on the best adaptation of Pyramus and Thisbe, while playing as many roles as possible. He ends up as just Pyramus, but then becomes motivated to have the best portrayal of Pyramus of all time. He also briefly falls in love with Titania during his dream.
Played by Will Ferrell: Will Ferrell is a charismatic funnyman who can be incredibly silly, and enjoyable at the same time. It is very easy to see Ferrell as a hammy actor who gets into various situations.
Peter Quince
Peter Quince is an older gentleman who is the director of the show. He is the voice of reason amongst the actors as he explains to the cast why they were chosen for their parts when they weren’t amused at his casting choices. Quince wants this performance to be his best play of all time and hopes that it will impress the Duke. He also quips around with the other actors.
Played by John Cleese: John Cleese is most known for being a member of “Monty Python”. Cleese will easily be able to riff off of the other actors and can be a very silly comedic “straight man”.
Francis Flute
Francis Flute is a young, scrawny, and aspiring big named actor. He hates the fact that he always ends up with female roles, especially since the other actors tease him about it throughout the play. Flute’s main goal is to get the role of “Pyramus” rather than “Thisbe”, even going as far as suggesting he take over Bottom’s role when Bottom went missing in the woods.
Played by Michael Cera: Is an explanation really needed here?
Tom Snout
Tom Snout is another actor in the show. He is stern, stoic, and says juuuuuuust enough to get his points across. He loves his job as a tinker and going on tangents about metal and woodworking. If Snout got enough money, he would build a house for himself from scratch.
Played by Nick Offerman: Snout is literally just ye olde Ron Swanson. Plus, it could be funny if during the play Snout went on a tangent about the best types of wood for building canoes.
Snug
Snug is not the sharpest tool in the shed. He has a hard time remembering simple lines such as “Roar”. His main goal is to remember when he needs to enter and roar as the Lion. Luckily, Snug is also musically talented and makes up for his bad acting by providing the background music and sound effects for the show, while playing the Lion. Snug is also the only character with a very thick London accent.
Played by Fred Armisen: Fred Armisen is a very versatile comedian. I saw him perform last February, and he is an amazing guitarist, drummer, and impersonator of various accents across the U.S. For Snug, Armisen can do a similar accent to one of his characters, Ian Rubbish (right photo). Rubbish is the lead member of Ian Rubbish and the Bizzaros; a parody of English Punk Rock bands such as The Clash.
Robin Starveling
Robin Starveling is another actor in the show. He is normally calm and charismatic, but his temper gets the better of him. Throughout the show, Starveling tries to control his temper and get through a performance without losing it.
Played by Kevin Hart: Starveling is pretty much the Shakespearian version of Kevin Hart. In the scene where Starveling explains to the audience that he’s moonshine, it would be funny if he gets mad about it.
